Lance & Brush Painting Service HomeThis is a featured page

Lance and Brush is based in Pretoria, South Africa and offers a painting service for 15mm miniatures. I have experience in historical 15mm, mostly in ancients and renaissance, but am willing to paint other scale, period or fantasy miniatures.

Historical uniforms will be researched but specifications for fantasy figures will have to be given to me. I use high quality acrylic paints and watercolour inks and pride myself on a high standard of work. ALL Completed figures will be varnished (I use a matte varnish but gloss can be provided on request) to prevent chipping and bases can be bought at extra cost (I am familiar with DBM/DBR other rule set's basing requirements will have to be e-mailed to me). Custom specifications must be given in pictures and will be charged for at a small extra cost. Painting is done freehand and decals for shields, if desired, must be provided by the customer. Figures from Museum Miniatures or Essex Miniatures can be ordered through me but as I do not keep in stock this could take up to 8 weeks extra depending on the time the figures take to get here.

I am at most Mind Sport South Africa tournaments and minis can be delivered/collected there. I do accept mail order jobs but due to the unreliability of the postal service completed works will be couriered back at an extra cost. Feel free to contact me on:

E-mail: accipiter@mweb.co.za

Payment wise I require 50% upfront and 50% upon delivery. Figure orders require 100% upfront. Prices differ depending on level of detail and time that needs to be put into figures, ie: the more added specifications, the more expensive the job.

Flags can be made at demand, these as well as customised and individualised shield designs are priced separately according to level of painting.

I currently offer 3 set price levels for 15mm painting and basing. (Prices exclude figure cost, and cost of bases) Prices for scales larger than15mm will be quoted:

Basic (entry level):
Basic entry level painting for armies intended to be used primarily for gaming. Figures will be painted and Inked but with minimum extra detail (Insignias, complex symbols etc.)
Infantry: R10.00; Mounted R15,00; Large Models: R20,00; Flags: R2,00; Shields R1,00

Standard:

Standard Level of painting for aesthetic gaming. Figures will be painted, inked and highlighted. Moderate detailing will be done.
Infantry: R15.00; Mounted R20,00; Large Models: R30,00; Flags: R3,00; Shields R2,00

Display:
High quality highly detailed painting of figures for displays and collections. Figures are painted with Base, Mid-tone and Highlights with an emphasis on maximised detail (ie: eyes, buttons, laces etc.). Due to the time needed for this level of detail, painting will cost considerably more.
Infantry: R20.00; Mounted R35,00; Large Models: R50,00; Flags: R4,00; Shields R3,00

DBM/DBR bases can be bought as well as other SQUARE/RECTANGULAR bases. I use 3mm Balsa Wood for bases at R2,00 per base.

Figures from Museum or Essex Miniatures can be ordered through me, just give me the codes that you want and I will play an order. Once again all figure orders require 100% upfront payment.
Prices for figures are:
Essex Miniatures:
Normal Infantry/Cavalry: R55,00
Larger Models (Chariots, Elephants): R90,00

Museum Miniatures:

Normal Infantry/Cavalry: R45,00
Larger Models (Chariots, Elephants): R75,00

Bearing in mind that I am a student and paint part-time (though I often wish there was enough demand to make it a viable full time job.) painting takes time depending on the amount and size of figures but generally should not exceed 2 months depending on how many orders I have. (Figure orders add anywhere up to 2 months extra to the time but generally should only take 3 weeks to get here).

At the moment I can only take cash payments or electronic transfer. Hopefully I will have a PayPal payment option within the next year.

As this site is still new it will take a month or so to get the pictures up.

I look forward to painting your miniatures!
